India’s largest synthetic fabric trading engine has officially paused operations. Starting today, Thursday, 5 November 2026, wholesale cloth shops and trading complexes across Surat have lowered their shutters for the annual 10-day Diwali recess declared by the Federation of Surat Trade & Textile Associations (FOSTTA). Over 65,000 commercial gaddis across Ring Road, Sahara Darwaja, Begampura, and Saroli will remain closed until trading resumes on Labh Pancham (Monday, 16 November 2026).
Final Clearances and Deserted Corridors
Following Wednesday’s final rush where merchants concluded cash counter transactions and cleared worker bonus disbursements, the city’s usually congested textile roads emptied overnight. Flagship commercial centers—including Surat Textile Market (STM), Millennium Market, and Raghukul Market—have shifted to holiday security protocols. Inter-market goods delivery tempos, handcarts, and parcel loaders have cleared the corridors to accommodate municipal cleaning and fire safety patrols.
Looms Power Down Across Sachin & Pandesara
In the industrial powerloom clusters of Sachin GIDC, Pandesara, Kim, and Pipodara, loom sheds have also gone quiet. Federation of Gujarat Weavers Association (FOGWA) representatives report that over 80% of machine operators have boarded holiday trains for Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Odisha. Weavers have completed machinery maintenance, oiled gearboxes, and tied off new warp beams with heavy jacquard, Dola silk, and organza tissue yarns to enable rapid production restarts when workers return after Chhath Puja.
Ceremonial Reopening for Chopda Pujan
While wholesale sales transactions remain completely halted, market complexes will open briefly on Sunday, 8 November 2026, for Diwali day. Traders will return to their shops between 8:00 AM and 2:00 PM to perform ceremonial Chopda Pujan, venerating new red ledger books and digital billing servers before resuming the holiday shutdown through the following week.
