Study notes
Kurta and kurti styles
- Straight: same width from chest to hem, the everyday office style.
- A-line: fitted at the shoulders and chest, widening gradually to the hem, like the letter A.
- Anarkali: long, frock-style kurta, fitted at the bodice and flaring out with many panels below the waist.
- Angrakha: an overlapping, wrap-style front, tied at the side.
- Kaftan: loose and wide, with broad, flowing sleeves.
Bottoms
- Patiala salwar (Punjab): many deep pleats, very roomy, gathered at the ankle.
- Churidar: fitted trousers, cut longer than the leg so they gather at the ankle in bangle-like folds (churi means bangle).
- Palazzo: wide, straight-leg trousers that flow from the waist.
- Gharara: fitted down to the knee, then flaring out wide, with a seam or band at the knee.
- Dhoti pants: draped folds at the front and a tapered ankle, giving a dhoti look.
Sets
A lehenga choli is a long flared skirt (lehenga), a fitted blouse (choli) and a dupatta. A three-piece suit is kurta, bottom and dupatta.
Why this matters online
Buyers search by style name. Use the right style in your product titles and filters ("Maroon georgette Anarkali suit with dupatta") so customers find what they are looking for.
