How much fabric is needed to stitch a kurti, men's shirt, or trouser in bulk production?

Short answer

On standard 44-inch (panna) fabric, a basic knee-length stitched kurti requires about 2.00 to 2.50 meters (and 4.50 to 5.25 meters for a 3-piece kurti-pant-dupatta set). On 58-to-60 inch wide fabric, a full-sleeve men's shirt takes about 1.50 to 1.65 meters and a formal trouser takes 1.20 to 1.30 meters.

Switching from 44-inch (Chhota Panna) to 58/60-inch (Bada Panna) fabric significantly improves marker efficiency on the cutting table because patterns nest tightly with less side-selvedge wastage:

  • Straight Kurti (44" width): ~2.10m to 2.40m (or ~1.60m on 58" width).
  • Anarkali / Flared Gown: 3.50m to 6.00m depending on kali flare.
  • Men's Shirt (58" width): ~1.55m across graded size ratio M–XXL.
