What should I do if my wholesale textile parcel (bale) arrives damaged or wet via road transport?

Short answer

Inspect the outer moisture-proof HDPE woven sack immediately at the transport godown, take photos/videos before opening, note any damage on the delivery challan, and inform your supplier and transporter within 24 hours to claim transit insurance.

Although road transport across Surat, Ahmedabad, and Mumbai is generally reliable, monsoons and highway transit can occasionally cause water damage or parcel pilferage:

  1. Reject Dirty/Torn Bales on Delivery: If the outer packaging is severely torn or soaked, write "Received Damaged / Wet Condition" on the transporter's delivery sheet before signing.
  2. Video Unboxing: Always record a continuous video unboxing showing the shipping label, invoice, and damaged items.
  3. Carrier Liability: Most registered road transporters offer basic carrier risk coverage; ask your supplier to add transit insurance for high-value consignments.
