With all major textile wholesale markets operating daily including Sundays until Diwali (8 November 2026), Surat Traffic Police, the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC), and the Federation of Surat Trade & Textile Associations (FOSTTA) have implemented a comprehensive traffic management and parcel-loading plan across the central Ring Road, Sahara Darwaja, and Saroli corridors.
Ring Road Gridlock Under Festive Pressure
During the final two weeks leading up to Diwali, vehicular movement along the 3-kilometre Ring Road flyover stretch reaches extreme peaks. Over 75,000 to 1,00,000 daily traders, outstation buyers, delivery tempos, and parcel pullers converge on key complexes including Surat Textile Market (STM), Millennium Market, Rohit AC Market, and Raghukul Market.
Unregulated handcart loading, double-parked goods tempos, and auto-rickshaws had brought midday traffic to a complete standstill earlier in the week, prompting market associations to request municipal intervention to protect time-critical outstation dispatches.
Core Traffic and Parcel Loading Rules
- No Heavy Vehicle Movement During Daylight Hours: Heavy multi-axle trucks and interstate parcel containers are strictly barred from entering Ring Road, Kamela Darwaja, and Begampura lanes between 9:00 AM and 9:00 PM.
- Designated Night Dispatch Window: Bulk truck loading and godown dispatch operations must be carried out during the designated night window from 9:30 PM to 7:00 AM.
- Feeder Tempo Parking Restrictions: Small goods tempos and battery rickshaws moving bundles from Pandesara and Sachin dyeing mills are permitted only 15-minute halts in designated basement bays; roadside parcel dumping has been banned under penalty.
- Traffic Marshals Deployed: FOSTTA has funded 150 private traffic marshals to assist city traffic police at high-congestion intersections including Sahara Darwaja, Kinnary Cinema junction, and the Millennium Market underpass.
Saroli Logistics Hub Relieving Core City Strain
To further reduce pressure on the old city markets, long-distance transport logistics firms are redirecting major parcel consolidation to newly expanded godowns in Saroli and Kumbharia along the Surat–Kadodara highway. Outstation buyers picking up multi-bundle wholesale orders are encouraged to route goods directly via Saroli dispatch centers rather than bringing large vehicles onto Ring Road.
FOSTTA officials have appealed to all trade members to respect loading windows so that last-minute dispatches can clear before the upcoming 31 October transport deadline.
