With Diwali falling on Sunday, 8 November 2026, Surat’s logistics and transport ecosystem is entering its highest-pressure week of the year. The Surat Goods Transport Association (SGTA), in coordination with the Federation of Surat Trade & Textile Associations (FOSTTA), has issued an advisory recommending that all outstation festive parcel dispatches be finalized and handed over to transport godowns by 31 October 2026.
The Rush Across Eastern & Northern Corridors
Surat sends between 300 and 400 dedicated textile truckloads daily during peak festive windows, supplying sarees, dress materials, and kurtis to major consuming belts in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Odisha, Assam, and Jharkhand. Because highway transit to Eastern destinations takes 4 to 6 days under normal circumstances, any loading delays after early November could leave festive stock stranded on highways or at destination transshipment hubs right as retail shopping peaks for Dhanteras and Diwali.
Transport operators point out that unloading crews and local delivery tempos in destination wholesale mandis (such as Patna, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, and Kolkata) begin winding down operations 2 to 3 days ahead of Diwali and Chhath Puja, significantly compounding the bottleneck for late arrivals.
Ring Road Godowns Working Extended Shifts
To cope with the heavy volume of finished bundles arriving from dyeing mills and embroidery units, transport booking godowns along Ring Road, Sahara Darwaja, Umarwada, and Saroli are operating round-the-clock dispatches:
- Sunday Dispatches Active: As textile markets remain open on Sundays through Diwali, transport godowns are maintaining loading operations on Sundays to prevent warehouse congestion.
- Chhath Puja Volume Surge: Exporters and wholesalers handling yellow, red, and traditional ethnic sarees for Chhath Puja in Bihar and Eastern UP report concentrated demand that must arrive before the festival commences.
- Freight Rates Hold Steady: Despite fuel price pressures earlier in the month, association representatives confirmed that standard parcel freight rates have been kept stable to support festive clearances.
Advisory for Wholesale Buyers
FOSTTA president Hansraj Jain and SGTA representatives have urged outstation retail buyers to clear pending delivery orders immediately rather than holding payments until the final week. Goods booked after 1 November will only be guaranteed delivery for the post-Diwali wedding season commencing in late November, rather than for Diwali retail sales counters.
