How can I tell the difference between Hand-Block Print and Screen Print on Jaipuri cotton?

Short answer

In authentic wooden hand-block printing, you will see tiny natural overlaps or slight variations where each 8–10 inch wooden block joins the next, and deep dye penetration on the reverse side. Screen printing is 100% machine-uniform across the entire width of the fabric.

Both have strong commercial markets in Sanganer:

  • Hand-Block Print (Chhipa Mohalla & Bagru): Costs ₹25–₹60/meter more; ideal for premium boutiques, D2C brands, and overseas exports.
  • Flat-Bed Screen Print (Diggi Road Sanganer): Fast, economical, and colour-fast; used for 80% of commercial wholesale kurtis and bedsheets under ₹800.
