What is the difference between Sublimation Printing and Direct Digital Printing on fabrics?

Short answer

Sublimation printing uses heat to transfer ink from transfer paper onto 100% polyester fabric (deep dye penetration, vibrant colours, synthetic only), whereas Direct Digital Textile Printing can print directly using reactive, acid, or pigment inks onto cotton, rayon, silk, and blended fabrics.

Textile converters and custom apparel brands in Surat and Ahmedabad use two main digital printing methods:

  • Sublimation: Best for synthetic sportswear, polyester lehengas, and synthetic dupattas; ink bonds permanently with polyester polymers.
  • Direct Digital Textile Printing: Required for natural fibers like 60x60 cotton, viscose rayon, and modal fabrics used in premium kurtis and designer dresses.
