What is an LR (Lorry Receipt / Bilty) when shipping wholesale textile parcels?

Short answer

An LR (Lorry Receipt, locally called Bilty) is the official transport booking document issued by a road freight company when your textile parcels (bales/cartons) are dispatched. You need the original LR or digital copy to claim your goods at your city's transport godown.

When you buy wholesale stock in Surat, Ahmedabad, or Mumbai, you do not have to carry heavy bales yourself:

  1. Tell the wholesaler your preferred road transporter for your city (e.g., VRL, TCI, Associated Road Carriers, or regional ring-road transporters).
  2. The wholesaler packs your goods into a moisture-proof woven parcel (bale), delivers it to the market's transport desk, and sends you the Tax Invoice + E-Way Bill + LR (Bilty) on WhatsApp.
  3. When the truck reaches your city in 2–6 days, present the LR at the local transport office and pay the freight charge (typically ₹3 to ₹8 per piece) to collect your parcel.
