What is the GST rate on wholesale sarees, kurtis, and fabrics in India?

Short answer

Under current Indian GST rules, woven and knitted fabrics and sarees generally attract 5% GST. Readymade garments (such as stitched kurtis, shirts, and jeans) attract 5% GST for items priced up to ₹1,000 per piece, and 12% GST for garments priced above ₹1,000.

When buying wholesale in Surat, Ahmedabad, or Mumbai, always ask for a proper GST tax invoice. Registered business buyers can claim 100% Input Tax Credit (ITC) on the GST paid, and shipments valued above the statutory threshold require an electronic E-Way Bill for smooth interstate transport.

Note: GST slabs are subject to GST Council notifications; always verify the current HSN code and rate with your supplier or CA.
