Mumbai: India's Commercial Textile Capital
Mumbai has been India's premier commercial wholesale and distribution gateway for textiles for over a century. From heritage cloth gallis in South Mumbai to suburban garment manufacturing zones, the city remains an indispensable buying destination.
Key Wholesale Markets in Mumbai
- Mulji Jetha Market (MJ Market), Kalbadevi: Established in the 1870s, it is one of Asia’s oldest and largest wholesale cloth markets. Organized into historic gallis (such as Govind Chowk, Pragraj Galli, and Chandra Chowk), it is the primary hub for cotton running fabric, mill suiting/shirting, and grey cloth.
- Mangaldas Market, Kalbadevi: Located opposite Crawford Market, it is organized into lettered lanes (1st to 9th Lane). It is famous across India for boutique fabrics, unstitched salwar suits, cut-pieces, Hakoba/Schiffli cottons, pure silks, and bridal dress materials.
- Hindmata Cloth Market, Dadar East: Maharashtra’s celebrated center for traditional wedding attire, authentic Paithani sarees, 9-yard Nauvari sarees, and daily cotton ethnic wear.
- National Market, Wadala: India’s premier ready-stock wholesale hub for men’s casual wear, denim jeans, cotton shirts, and kids' readymade garments.
