Gujarat: one of India's richest textile craft regions
Gujarat is home to some of the most complex textile techniques in the world. Patan Patola is a double ikat in which both warp and weft are tie-dyed before weaving. Bandhani from Jamnagar and Kutch is made by tying thousands of tiny knots before dyeing. Ajrakh is a many-stage resist block print in natural indigo and madder, and Rogan is painted with a thick castor-oil paste.
These quizzes explain how each craft is made, where it comes from and how to tell the genuine technique from a printed copy, which matters when you buy for your shop or describe products on your website.
