Why fabric knowledge pays off in the market
Most mistakes in wholesale buying start with a fabric name. The same word, such as georgette or satin, can mean a polyester or a viscose version at very different prices, and a saree sold as "silk" may be art silk. Knowing the fibre, the weave and the yarn helps you ask the right questions and price your stock correctly.
The quizzes in this topic cover the fabrics you see every day in Surat and Ahmedabad (chiffon, georgette, crepe, organza, satin, velvet, rayon, denim and jersey) and the fibres and yarns behind them: cotton, silk, viscose, polyester, PTY, POY and elastane, plus the denier and cotton count numbers on yarn invoices.
Start with the fabric quiz if you are new to the trade, then move on to fibres and yarn.
