Tamil Nadu's Home Textile & Weaving Corridor
While Tiruppur leads in knitted T-shirts, the adjoining central districts of Erode and Karur form India’s powerhouse for woven cotton fabrics, home furnishings, and institutional textile exports.
Erode: The Powerloom & Daily Fabric Capital
- Massive Weaving Belt: Erode operates hundreds of thousands of powerlooms and auto looms producing grey cotton, rayon yardage, lungies, dhotis, and towels.
- Gani Market (Abdul Gani Market): One of Asia’s largest weekly textile bazaars. Operating every Monday evening and Tuesday, thousands of outstation traders buy bulk bedsheets, towels, nighties, and lungies in cash lots.
- Regional Specialties: Bhavani Jamakkalam (GI-tagged woven carpets and durries), Chennimalai handloom bedspreads, and Perundurai processing parks.
Karur: India’s Home Textile Export Capital
- Specializes in made-ups and home textiles for global retail chains: kitchen towels, napkins, placemats, curtains, cushion covers, and bed linen.
- Handles extensive yarn dyeing, shuttleless weaving, and cut-and-sew packaging compliant with international social and environmental standards (OEKO-TEX, GOTS).
