Indian textile buyers rarely source everything from one place. Each hub specialises, and knowing which city makes what saves time and money.
Gujarat
- Surat: man-made fibre fabrics, sarees, dress materials and kurtis.
- Ahmedabad: cotton fabric, denim and old wholesale cloth markets.
South India
- Tiruppur (Tamil Nadu): India's knitwear capital, with T-shirts, innerwear and knitted garments for India and export.
- Karur (Tamil Nadu): home textiles such as bed linen, curtains and kitchen linen.
- Erode (Tamil Nadu): cotton fabrics, handloom and powerloom goods, and large wholesale textile markets.
North India
- Ludhiana (Punjab): hosiery and woollen knitwear, such as sweaters and winter wear.
- Panipat (Haryana): home furnishings, blankets and recycled textiles.
- Bhilwara (Rajasthan): suiting fabric, often called the textile city of India.
- Delhi, Gandhi Nagar: a huge wholesale market for readymade garments.
Maharashtra
- Bhiwandi: one of India's biggest powerloom weaving centres.
- Ichalkaranji: powerloom town known as the Manchester of Maharashtra.
